“15th of September 2011, an engine room fire broke out on Hurtigruten’s MS NORDLYS off the coast of Norway. The ship was carrying 262 people and many were taken off in lifeboats before the ship arrived in Ålesund, some 230 miles north-west of Oslo. Two crew members have died and at least 16 people were reportedly injured as the blaze forced rescuers to evacuate more than 200 passengers from the NORDLYS”
After the fire, Høglund got the contract for the entire rebuilt of the Automation System onboard. We replaced the old damaged NordControl System onboard with the Høglund system.
The existing MaK-cabinets where damaged, so we also got the contract for a new Main Engine Control systems. We replaced the MaK-cabinets, which contained the Engine Safety System, RPM-Switch and the Pleiger Controllers.
Høglund has delivered following solutions:
- Integrated Automation System (IAS) & Control-system
- Power Management System (PMS)
- Clutch Control System
- HVAC System, with control off all ventilation fans and heating/cooling
- Safety System for the MaK main engines & Gear
- Safety Systems for the Bergen Aux Engines
- Energy Management System
- AC Compressor & Cargo Compressor, Control System
- GMR Playback Recorder, with 5 months recording of every signal every second
- Remote access, for remote service and support
In addition, we had to do some modifications in the main switchboard, where we installed Deif, GPU’s and FAS units for remote synchronization of generator and tie-breakers.
This was a "turn-key" contract. Høglund project and commissioning engineers arranged:
- Approbation with Factory Acceptance Test together with DNV-GL
- FAT
- Cable-pulling
- Installation, Reconnection and IO-Check
- Harbour Acceptance Test with DNV-GL
- Sea Acceptance Test with DNV-GL
After the sea-trial we handed over the new system with all approved certificates needed.
