Høglund successfully delivered a full-scale, high-complexity automation refit aboard the cruise vessel Vasco da Gama, elevating operations for V Ships and owner Mystic Cruises.

The refit project was carried out during a four-week dry-dock operation at Lisnave Shipyard in Setúbal, Portugal, commencing on March 29. The vessel's outdated ABB control system was fully replaced to meet current operational and safety requirements. As part of the project, Høglund collaborated with General Electric to refit the ABB propulsion Cyclo Converters.

The scope of delivery included:

  • A new Integrated Automation System (IAS) and Power Management System (PMS)
  • Sulzer EC40 Engine Safety System
  • Barton Tank Sounding System
  • Navalimpianti Valve Control System

In addition to delivering and commissioning the new systems, Høglund undertook an extensive clean-up and reorganization of all I/O cabinets onboard—an essential step to ensure safe operations and maintainability for the crew in the long term.

"This was a demanding project on a technically complex vessel with tight timelines and multiple stakeholders. We're proud to have delivered a solution that ensures both operational reliability and long-term serviceability," said Hans Høglund, VP Retrofit at Høglund.
